A true three-shot par 5 from the back markers. A Left-to-right slope fairway and a hazard right encourages a tee shot down the left. Don’t overdo it as the course boundary skirts the entire left side of the hole. If going for the green in two, take your approach shot over the right side of the fairway bunker to allow the natural slope to bring it down to the green. If laying up, play short of the fairway bunker to leave a short, open shot into this green.
The finishing hole on the outward nine is a dogleg left with OOB bordering the left side. Longer hitters will want to challenge the bunkers off the tee in order to leave a shorter approach shot in. A downward sloped approach calls for precise club selection to a deep green (34m).
A medium length par five, a lateral water hazard runs down the entire right side. A drive down the left will open up the approach. A small water hazard crossing the fairway about 60m short of the green is the only obstacle for the second shot to a raised green with a back tier and sloping front.
The shortest par three on the course, the hole has a wide but shallow green, angled from front right to back left with a large ridge running through it. A single greenside bunker protects most of the left half of the green and a false front makes the green play even shallower than its depth.
A mid-length par four which doglegs from right to left. OOB skirts down the left side of the first half of the hole while anything too far right can be blocked out by the stand of trees short of the green. A sizeable green protected by a large slope off the left with two bunkers, one short and on the right.
A straight forward par five which plays mostly uphill with the only trouble being OOB down the left side. Players must navigate a narrow fairway on their second shot with trees and mounds on the left. The raised green demands a good approach shot. A good birdie chance before the challenging finishing holes.
Thurgoona’s longest par 4, The favours a right to left shot from the elevated teeing ground. A stand of trees 120m short of the green will block out anything too far down the right side. Trees and a water hazard down the left side await anything left off the tee. The raised green is protected by a bunker on the left and a false front.
Thurgoona’s signature hole, this hole offers a bit of everything. A visually daunting tee shot, water awaits errant tee shots hit either right or long left. Two greenside bunkers force a carry onto an otherwise flat green. The bailout is short left, offering the best chance of making up and down.
A uphill par four demanding a straight drive between the mounds on the left and the tree-lined right side. An elevated green with a severe tier running through the middle demands precise club selection. Short left is a greenside bunker, and false front will make for difficult par saves.
The 18th hole demands precision off the tee to avoid the OOB down the left while not being blocked out by the trees down the right. Longer hitters need to leave the driver in the bag to avoid the hazard crossing the fairway about 280m from the back tees. A solitary bunker protects the left side of the green while mounding and a false front protects the right.
