Field Breakdown and Exemptions

  • Maximum of 120 consisting of:
  • 82 players from 2019 Legends Tour exemption categories*
  • 1 player from Asian Senior Tour
  • 32 Amateur players from Golf NSW exemption categories
  • 5 players from Professional pre qualifying

Should any of the above categories not reach capacity, the tournament committee at their ultimate discretion may re-allocate positions to alternate categories.

Balance of entries exemption (i.e. unranked players) will be required to pre-qualify

Championship Committee

The Championship will be under the management and control of the Championship Committee, consisting of one representative from Golf NSW, one member appointed by the host club and one member appointed by the PGA of Australia. In the absence of the full committee, such members thereof as may be present at any time may give a decision and any decision shall be deemed the decision of the full committee. The Championship Committee reserves the right to vary any condition of the event.


Players are to register with the PGA representative no later than 5.00pm on Wednesday 23 October 2019.


Professional entrant Pre-Qualifying will be conducted on Tuesday 22nd October at Thurgoona Country Club Resort. Players will be notified after close of entry, on 4 October 2019.

Amateur Pre qualifying has been conducted throughout the year. Amateurs are not entitled to prequalify on the Tuesday.

Monday and Tuesday available however, tees are reserved from 12 noon depending if Pre-Q is required.

Practice Wednesday October 23 rd
1st Tee Open from 7.30am and closes 2.30pm
10th Tee closes 4pm.
**Players crossing from 9 to 10 have right of way.

1st Tee Open from 1pm and closes 2.30pm
10th Tee closes 4pm.

The tournament shall be decided over three rounds (54 holes) stroke play. 120 players will play one round on each of the first two days, after which the leading 50 professionals plus ties for 50th place, including any amateurs on the same score or better after the second round, shall qualify to play the final round.


In the event of a tie for first place, a ‘sudden death’ play-off will take place on on a hole-by-hole playoff.

If a play-off involves more than two players, those other than the winner will
be deemed to have tied for second place regardless of their scores in the play-off. The playoff will be conducted over holes determined by the Tournament Committee.

Participating players will park in the club car park using their PGA Tour Accreditation for access.

Winners Exemption

The winner of the NSW Senior Open Championship shall be granted an exemption into the 2019 AVJennings NSW Open Championship.


Caddies are not compulsory for the Championship, however amateur players wishing to apply for the use of a cart must make application for a medical exemption no less than 14 days prior to the tournament start date. This timeframe may be reviewed by the Championship Committee under exceptional circumstances.

For PGA Professionals, under PGA Regulation 9.4.13(b), only players over the age of 65 or with a certified medical condition may utilize a motorized golf cart. Applications for a medical exemption to use a cart will be reviewed and ultimately determined by the PGA Tour of Australasia Doctor.

Distance Measuring Devices

Distance measuring devices may be used during the Championship.

Locker Room

Participating players may use the Men’s Locker Room on the ground floor of the clubhouse.

Players and caddies are to follow the dress regulations of the host club.

Media and Publicity

Golf NSW, The PGA and Thurgoona Country Club and Resort may undertake media promotions relating to the tournament including but not limited to broadcast, print and social media. Players entered for the tournament assent to references and pictures of them participating being used for commercial purposes.
